Housing + in Yeni Mahalle, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Ayten Süslü
While designing this project, I was inspired by the history of the Yenimahalle.
Yenimahalle is known for being the first neighborhood created in Kayseri and
for having people from many different social structures from the day the
neighborhood was formed to this day. In the project I designed, I aimed to use
a different form, unlike normal multi-storyey buildings. I wanted to create a
wide area for the users with its long, thin structure. I also preferred glass to
provide comfort in floor corridors and houses. Instead of separating the rooms
by using walls inside the apartments, I used a minimum number of separator
walls to create a more holistic and warm environment. In addition, I designed
an open terrace on the top floor of the building so that the residents of the
building can use it. In addition to the residents of the apartment, I designed
an art workshop on the bottom floor for people of all ages to take art lessons
so that my design could be open to the public, and I used minimal walls and
maximum glass to create a spacious environment. In my covered garden,
I designed a small open-space exhibition to display the works made in the ateliers.
I used wooden strip panels on 2 different façades to add mobility to the building.
