POTTERY HIGH SCHOOL IN AVANOS
Safiye Incinur Gökçe

Avanos was a city where widespread tourism of pottery was carried out. As a result of the analyzes, it was seen that trade was spreading instead of producing pottery. In order to preserve the pottery tradition in design and to provide jobs for young people, pottery workshops were offered as an alternative educational model.

It was planned to use the designed pottery workshops at certain hours in public. A conference hall and a pottery exhibition were also designed with the aim of joint use of the public and the student.

Considering different user groups, the land was divided into three main layers with differences in elevation. A green line connecting the green area on both sides of the land was targeted next to Kızılırmak from these regions.

Considering the use of students in the second area, educational units were placed one meter below the road elevation.

Finally, the conference hall and the exhibition were designed with a landscape that accommodates on the same elevation as the road

It was considered to take only northern light into the exhibition hall. The heterogeneous incoming light of the southern light was homogenized by placing natural bricks in front of the glass. Compacted soil was used as the infiltration wall on all the outer walls. Steel columns were used to transport the steel roof, while the carrier was usually reinforced concrete.

The brick wall made of natural clay that weaves into the western facade of the school has a semi-opaque and parametric design.
