HIGH SCHOOL WITH AN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION MODEL

Avanos, a district of Nevşehir, is one of the important center in terms of traditional Turkish art. However, the art is limited due to lack of different types of art education. The main concept is to enrich the existing art ever more with the fine arts like painting, dance and drama. At the same time, these artworks – painting exhibitions, dance show and theatre – will be displayed in common areas which is amphitheatre located near the river. Thus, these areas – riverside, will be still used for recreational activites with the artworks.

Avanos has an old settlement where people settled in caves, and it was more difficult for the spaces they opened to be angular and steep. In the design approach, with the idea of carving according to this need, it is thought that the structure would be in an organic shape that will remind old settlement in the outside. The construction will be done with 3d printers technology in the construction area.

There will be three different department and a common area that includes cafeteria, library, administrative units, and classes for common courses. According to that, the middle is purposed for common place. The common part connected the departments with 3 different kind of a bridge. Users can reach wherever they want to go from the common area by these bridges.

In order for the corridors not to be used only as a means of circulation, it is aimed to open niches to maintain the sociality in these places. Additionaly, it is aimed to show that nature, which is one of the greatest sources for art students, is together with nature by the openings in the middle of these corridors.

In order to increase the visibility of life in the school, a large gallery space was designed in the common building, and the following vertical circulation was defined on the sides of this gallery. With a glass dome on the roof floor, which also provides the opportunity to watch the view at the top, it is thought to be a library and conference hall. In addition, thanks to this dome, it was expected that the building would be illuminated naturally during the day.

For the landscape design; a green corridor which provide you to reach the niverside, is suggested and by doing so, the relation between art students and nature will be stronger.
