Carpet Weaving Education Complex

Avanos is a place with great potential in terms of its cultural background. In order to evaluate this potential, analysis and data were collected in the region. It was reported that local people complained about job inability and brain drain. One of the forgotten values of the people of the region is carpet weaving. In this project, a complex was designed by taking advantage of the potential of the region, where the citizens can be involved. While formal and informal education is given together in the high school part of the complex, classes open to the public are given in the madder center and students graduate by educating the public. While the formal education curriculum is followed in the first two years, only hoop weaving is done in the classroom. In the last two years, students who chose a branch work on large weaving looms in the workshops and the products are used in the exhibition. Carpet exhibitions are held in the exhibition areas prepared by preserving the natural axes of the place. This area is designed to provide shade at all times. On the other hand, in the determination made according to the sun analysis, the region that receives the most sun is used for the production of madder. The building is located right next to the Red River. Landscape arrangement was made on the riverside and this area was brought to the public. Also, in this way, the prevailing wind from the river is avoided. The vehicle entrance for the service units of the cafeteria and workshops is given from the main road. The building was designed in the courtyard school model to define the ceremonial area itself. In this way, non-student circulation was kept out of the school garden. Sunshades were used on the eastern facade of the building and on the northern and eastern facades of the library to break the direct sunlight.
The complex promises a sustainable future that offers job opportunities to its graduates. The building, which is inevitable to make significant contributions to the silhouette and operation of the region, plans to work in an integrated manner with its surroundings.
