HIGH SCHOOL WITH AN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION MODEL
ARCH202 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
Volleyball High School of Avanos
Berre Kök
Based on the analysis we made, the inadequacy of the areas for active sports in Avanos at first stood out. Especially in the interviews with the young people, I saw that the lack of a gym was mentioned frequently. Based on these analyzes, I wanted to design a school on the volleyball branch, where Turkey also achieved great success. My aim was to carry the qualified education provided in big cities to Anatolian cities. For this purpose, I decided to design a volleyball school in Avanos. I placed the main entrance of the area, the gymnasium, in order not to interrupt the view of the Kızılırmak and to stay in touch with the city. Because of the height of the gym, I buried a part of the gym under the ground. I aimed to customize the area according to the usage purposes by using the elevation differences in my design. I wanted the students who will receive their high school education here to complete both their physical and mental development in this structure. I also aimed to design a space where the people of Avanos would perform their activities by aiming to use the hall not only as a sports hall but also as a multi-purpose hall.
