The Plant School
Ömer Bilgehan

The LOCAL PLANT SCHOOL examines the different plants growing in and around Avanos, helping to find anything that can contribute to the growth of healthier and more productive plants (like weather effects, soil, fertilizer, and seeds). According to the data they obtained, they go to the greenhouse, which is right in front of them, and conduct their experiments. The perimeter of the greenhouse will be covered with polycarbonate material. The reason for choosing this material is durability, light transmission, easy to cut and shape, thermal insulation, and lightweight. In the façade design, something like a French balcony was designed for the upper windows and they were usually covered with aluminium panels (not completely). Thus, mobility was provided on the façade of the building. This school gives importance to both formal and informal education and brings together two different education systems. In addition, areas such as parks, sitting areas by the water, and a terrace by the water have been created so that students can socialize. In addition, I wanted to separate the public from the students, taking into account the students' private lives. Especially by connecting a bridge to the common conference hall, students were allowed to pass from the lower side and the public from the upper side. Bringing experts from outside into the conference hall and workshop areas, he gives seminars about plants and gives workshops. Thus, an educational environment that is open to different ideas and innovation is created. In addition, students or the public can watch the field and matches from the top over the bridge. There is a gallery space inside the main building. A light system flows from the roof towards this gallery space. This creates brighter areas. I thought that it should be a more used area by adding the cafe area to the part where the students will be more concentrated. Even people leaving the dressing room can take their drinks or food and wait at the tables or sitting areas there. Finally, I gave the vehicle entrance from the back so that a more comfortable environment was created for the students.
