Design approach of studio

Architectural Design Studio 2 intends to focus on morphology to explore the interactions between space, function, and users as a design challenge. Following the path developed in the previous studios, the students are expected to represent their design idea with the appropriate tools, developing critical thinking about the social and cultural aspects of architecture. They are also expected to work with material and technological features to produce space and explore the architectonics of the design they create. These will incorporate form, morphology, topology, ergonomics, including special requirements and accessibility for the users, and last but not the least sustainability and environment friendliness.

Education should not be consisted of only formal education model; it also should include non-formal and in-formal education models to improve educated children within the global perspective. Informally mentioned extracurricular and non-classroom education model is one of the approaches that arise from this (SoygeniÅŸ & Erktin, 2014). There are many types of educations; but to be improved, sufficient, beneficial for society, high school education should have a combined education system within all these types; formal, informal, nonformal. High School with new education models is the general definition of the term project. The studio aims discovery and represent the needs of generation Z and Alpha, global and contemporary alternative education near the school in the given context. Therefore, within this semester, it is expected to design an environment for children and for their instructors that allows them to feel safe and secure to discover themselves and to imagine beyond what has been seen and revealed. Active learning will be the basic mission of the High School and as an architecture design studio, this semester aim is to establish that goal through, research by design and learning by doing.

However, each design proposal should include:

•          Determined student groups

•          Labs, workshops, or educational spaces according to the theme of the         school

•          Wide span space (Conference, sport hall, activity hall, exhibition hall etc.) which is also open to public

•          Library

•          Cafeteria, canteen or dining hall

•          Flexible activity spaces

•          Service units

•          Administration, teachers’ lounge and counseling room
