HIGH SCHOOL WITH AN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION MODEL
ARCH202 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
Discovering The G-Alpha
Pınar Şeker
The name I chose for my project was to Discover G-Alpha. Because my biggest goal throughout my project process was to make this new generation realize their hidden talents. However, I wanted them to be noticed and discovered by other generations as well. This is exactly what the training system he proposes for my design aims at. I have designed an educational structure where the young generation can discover and exhibit their talents in different fields such as art, science, technology and these, apart from the normal education subjects.
The school building consists of six main masses. Generally, these masses are two-storied. Each mass contains classes, laboratories and workshops within itself. And these areas come together in the inner gardens, one of the building blocks of the project. The inner gardens create a space for students studying on different subjects to communicate and share what they have learned at the end of the day. I designed a multifunctional hall for activities, a closed activity area on the upper floor of the cafeteria. In addition to these, open terraces can also be used for activities in accordance with the purpose. I wanted to bring together the design of a public library and the whole city in one piece of the design. Another critical point for this purpose was the inner garden passing through the center. This garden will be the intersection line for the old and new generation.
In order to reflect the layered and dynamic structure of Avanos to the masses of the design, I designed sloping roofs and extended facades. For interior gardens, I designed wooden profiles integrated with the carrier system. These wooden profiles have an important place for the combination of interior gardens and buildings.
What I wanted to see at the end of the entire design process was the idea of an educational structure that matches Avanos with its texture and dynamism, is intertwined with green and the river, and is based on the theme of exploration. Material choices, form decisions, inner gardens and the organization of the masses supported my aim.
I hope that I have adequately reflected my ideas on my design and on you.
