Housing + in Hürriyet, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Yusuf Bilal Doğu / Community Integration
The main purpose of this innovative project, located in Kayseri Hürriyet District, is to create a comprehensive mass housing project designed according to the special needs and wishes of the local people. Going beyond the traditional single floor plan approach, the project embraces diversity by including different plan types on each floor and even within the flats themselves, and offers a new departure from the monotonous layouts in the region.
Designed as more than a residential space, the ground floor hosts a strategically positioned restaurant. In addition to finding a solution to the food and beverage shortage in the surrounding area, this facility also serves as a unique social enterprise. Staffed by local housewives and neighbourhood youth, the restaurant becomes a hub for community engagement. It appeals to families with an inviting children's playground, aims to attract customers from the nearby dental hospital and offers a casual and inviting dining option.
The social housing project consists of a total of 13 flats spread over three floors, each designed to appeal to different user profiles. Designated common areas are integrated on each floor to encourage community interaction. These spaces, placed on the façade of the building, provide an open and inviting atmosphere, strengthening social ties between residents. From the interior, these spaces offer panoramic views of the adjacent park, creating a dynamic environment that extends beyond the physical boundaries of the building.
From the outside, the building embraces simplicity by combining a concrete structure with wooden details in the form of horizontal panels. This design choice not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also contributes to a harmonious integration with the natural environment. The result is a housing project that transcends mere functionality and combines social, cultural and aesthetic elements to enrich the lives of its residents and the community at large.
