Şebnem Bahçeci / Chin-Chin

The concept of the neighborhood's evolution emerged as a result of analyses conducted in Site 2. In light of these analyses, the interpersonal relationships in Hürriyet neighborhood, especially among women, have drawn attention. Simultaneously, a structuring has been observed due to this interaction. Typically, buildings are positioned in a U-shape or facing each other. This positioning has led to the creation of communal spaces in the areas in between.

The stance of the buildings has also facilitated increased visual and auditory communication among people in the shared spaces. In this project, I focused on the interaction and communication among women. I brought a new and modern perspective to the socialization established by women who have been coming together in Hürriyet neighborhood for a long time and designed a café for them. Women of all ages can gather in this café, socialize, hold meetings, share their experiences, and enjoy coffee together.

In the Chin Chin project, one of the key points I emphasized was enabling visual and auditory communication among the residents of the building. For this reason, I designed a building in an L-shape, incorporating long communal balconies. By positioning the apartments facing each other and side by side, I provided residents of this building with the opportunity for communication. There is a walking path between the café and the building, made of wood and some greenery. This walkway not only facilitates communication between the park and the neighborhood above the building but also creates a second communal space.

In this way, the Chin Chin project was formed by introducing a new perspective to old culture and habits, simultaneously increasing human interaction through both the locations of the apartments and the communal spaces created.
