Housing + in Hürriyet, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Sude Işık/ Animal Plus
Animal Plus is a project that is located in the Hürriyet neighborhood. After researching the area, I saw that there were many stray animals in the area. However, I saw that there were no shacks or feeding facilities for stray animals in the area. Animal Plus is a residential and social housing project. In the socialization section, I focused on the unifying power of animals. There are related functions at the bottom of the building. There is a veterinary service where people can get their pets treated, an animal hotel where they can entrust their pets for a while, and a cat cafe where they can pet cats while socializing. There is a cover over the outdoor seating areas of the cat cafe. In the housing part of the building, I designed a total of 10 apartments for various types of people. I included apartments for nuclear families, couples, people staying with friends, and students because the working site is close to many areas such as high schools and secondary schools. There is an ornamental pool in the garden of the building, where animals can meet their drinking needs and people can sit around and spend time. In the façade of the building, one of the columns extends to the exterior of the building which highlights and attracts people to the entrance of the building. Also, in the social housing section, I placed 2 main entrances from the front, 1 entrance used by cafe employees, and 1 more entrance from the back. Through the door at the back, animals can easily access the green area to spend time. I used wooden panels as exterior cladding. Moreover, the building has a flat roof. Lastly, solid-space analysis and dominant facade direction were used to decide the shape of the building.
