Housing + in Hürriyet, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
İslam Sahraoui / United
This innovative residential building seamlessly combines three floors of 12 apartments of comfortable living in the heart of Hurriyet in kayseri, Turkey.
Escape stairs and an elevator with a spacious entrance on the ground floor ensures a comfortable entry and safe exit in case of emergencies. A huge tree is shadowing my residence park with benches and trees surrounding it from the outer southern and northern sides and bushes from the eastern side. (bushes were used there so that the roots do not affect the parking), as well as a ramp taking to the underground parking lot, that takes up to 16 cars -disabled parking included- which is enough since it is a private parking, as well as motorcycles and bicycles and preserving nature's essence with a circular concrete wall around a majestic tree's roots. On the other part of my residential building, I have benches and a tree in the middle as well, and with the park across the street, I made sure to have my crosswalk take directly there.
As known, nothing is bigger than the bond between grandparents and their grandkids, but sometimes they both need some separate time, whether it is educational, playful or just to rest. That's why I've designed this harmonious haven for multi-generational living.
Tailored to embrace the needs of both the elderly and the little ones, this haven offers a ground-floor café catering to seniors with a disabled wet area, a kitchenette and outdoor tables, and a vibrant kindergarten for their grandkids occupied with learning, napping and playing areas. The colorful façade of the kindergarten adds a playful touch, making it more unique and separated from the other façades where it is kept simple and organized (2 categories of people, 2 completely different façade designs), in addition to energy-efficient solar panels that crown the roof, embracing sustainability. During the site analysis, the facade design was taken into consideration, as well as the neighborhood grid. And I've decided to add a more contemporary touch to it by making an Aluminum facade cladding and a classical one with concrete and steel balconies, in addition to wooden cladding embracing the walking path I have between the western side and the eastern one, ensuring a blend of style, function, and eco-conscious living where everyone is UNITED.
This text explains why I called my project ''united'' since it units all categories of people, whether there were families residing in the housing, elderly people looking for some fun resting time, or kids discovering life through their kindergarten where they play, learn and evolve.
The everyday life at university was everything but never boring, hard but fun, challenging but worth it. Every Monday and Thursday, we were expected with new ideas to take feedback on and fix until the next session. I feel like this was the best way for us to learn a lot of things at a time and in a short period, since the feedback makes you realize all the good in your project, as well as the bad and problems that you should think of as a future architect and solve. As an architecture student, it would be a lie if I said that it is easy, but seeing your project evolve and come to life after every change makes all the sleepless nights worth it.
