Housing + in Hürriyet, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Şeymanur Özselçuk / Master-Recipe
I would like to explain the housing+ project, which is the last design topic of this semester. The project area is the Hürriyet neighbourhood of Kayseri. Since this area is located closer to the industrial zone, it is a neighbourhood where employees generally stay. In my design field, the first area that came to me as a result of the draw is an area closer to the dental hospital. According to my analysis in the field, people pay great attention to sincerity and human relations. The buildings are mostly 3-storey, have large backyards, and their boundaries are not sharply defined by walls. Moreover, although it is close to the dental hospital and secondary school, there are no hot home-cooked restaurants in the area. Based on these foundations, I determined my concept as "heartiness". I designed the project in a structure that starts with 2 separate blocks from the ground and joins at the top. One of the blocks belongs to my plus function and the other one belongs to the building entrance. In order to meet the needs of the region and to increase the employment of women living in the neighbourhood, I determined my plus function as a hot home-cooked restaurant with female employees, and I also included a boutique course centre where different recipes are given and prepared. The building entrance is on the other block and I positioned the doors facing the common area. My purpose in doing this was to increase circulation under the building and compare people by creating a passage. On the first floor of the project, based on the shapes of the restaurant and building entrance on the ground floor, I made a deep recess inward, thus creating a more spacious area by raising the ceiling for those sitting outside the restaurant and those who enter the passage and approach the end. This spacious area is complemented by a large green area with a bicycle and pedestrian path. The most important issue for me from the beginning to the end of the design phase was to keep my concept as basic and create a structure that is as needs- and comfort-oriented as possible and appeals to the majority. Therefore, in the housing part of the project, the plans mostly include 2 bedrooms, a large kitchen, a large living area and a balcony, so it can appeal to singles, the elderly, families and even large families.
