Housing + in Hürriyet, Kayseri
ARCH201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Büşranur Özdemir / Hypertufa
HYPERTUFA
I did this project in Hürriyet, one of the first planned settlement areas of Kayseri. This is one of the most important reasons why my concept is "Reflection"; The fact that people with different views of life lived here at the time allowed me to design this place for different blocks and people with different family dynamics in my project.
Another important idea that supports my concept is “Repetition”. When urban planning was carried out in the area, two-storey and three-storey buildings were built in the same order and clustered together. This enabled me to place buildings with repeating geometric sessions in my project, and the cafe at the centre of all blocks became a space that reflects the common-use area in the middle of the clustered houses.
The most important point of the project, outside the functional area, is the stairs that provide circulation. Since these stairs constitute the part called the core, positioning them close to the entrance of the courtyard would compromise the privacy of personal space. For this reason, I positioned it at the intersection of only two blocks so that it would not be a commonplace that provides access to the homes of couples and families, and at the same time, it would not be a place that outsiders could easily reach.
The green area opposite was a very important area for us, the naturalness of the building here reflects that the entire facade of the block with the largest facade, designed for families with children, is made of wood, and the pavilion-shaped wooden library I created for children in the functional area can be considered as a reflection of the park opposite.
As a result, my project is a building with a good solution, as it is designed in line with people's needs in terms of transportation and home planning, in terms of architecture, an area that creates a free space for those who live in it, like "Hypertufa", which is true to its name, where people with the same standard but different worldviews can live with pleasure.
