Social Gathering Space at Büyükada
ARCH301 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III
Melike Mutlu Talk and Thoughts Lounge
Talk and Thoughts Lounge provides a space for people to gather and openly express their thoughts and ideas and debate the books, poems, or current issues they have read. They will also be able to carry out literary-related activities and make them permanent through their published magazines. The concept was chosen based on the richness of prior literature and culture of Büyükada's people, as well as their self-expression and active participation characteristics, which are still alive today. In this approach, a context is created between concept, design, and project area.
The modifications to the code on the site were developed with accessibility considerations in mind as part of the inclusive design approach. Access to all buildings is made available using the same code, and the circulation system is provided while transferring between levels. Natural materials and construction techniques in Büyükada were considered, and wood, stone, and hemp were used as materials appropriate for the context. Hemp is applied by compressing it between wooden pillars and molds. Furthermore, Hemp's high -insulating capabilities minimize the need for additional materials, contributing to sustainability.
As a result, a gathering place developed in which activities related to idea sharing and literatüre were carried out within the context of Büyükada conditions and people.
