Derya Kızılay Culinary Cosmos

The culinary culture revealed by the diversity of ethnic origins that Büyükada has is the starting point of the project. In this project, I worked on designing a social gathering center to promote, develop and disseminate the culinary memory of the island under the name of CULINARY COSMOS. According to the project concept, it is planned to introduce the culinary culture of the island to people, to make the adventures of the products and their stories live to all visitors. The design created a square where everyone could gather and have a pleasant time, and the built environment was shaped around this square. Visitors have the opportunity to experience exhibitions where they can learn culinary history, cooking workshops, menu planning, presentation techniques working areas using artificial intelligence support, food yoga, market and cafe areas. In addition, children have not been forgotten in this design, workshops and activity areas with a food concept have been created for them. The slope of the project area has been designed with landscape design and layout decisions, so attention has been paid to making every designed place accessible to all visitors. The buildings consist of wooden load-bearing system, masonry walls and shed roof designs to adapt to the island's texture. Cordwood construction has been preferred for masonry walls. The design is based on a social responsibility and inclusive design idea that can bring people of different ages belonging to different cultures together, spend time together and share experiences as a solution to the lack of gathering space in Büyükada.
