Fatma Koç Beyond The Fin

In shaping my design, I drew inspiration from the layout of the monastery. I created an axis extending from the Büyükada museum to the Aya Nikola Rum Monastery on my site. Considering visitors coming from both the monastery and the museum, I strategically positioned the spaces. Upon entering the building from the museum side, visitors are greeted by a space where virtual fishing is experienced and learned. To enhance this experience, I designed a small fish pool in my square. The upper floor of the building functions as a workshop area, and on the same level, there is a community kitchen building when we leave this floor. In this space, visitors can prepare dishes made from fish. On the upper floor, there is a separate restaurant with a menu featuring dishes produced in the community kitchen. The buildings are constructed using masonry stone and wood as building materials, aligning with the architectural system unique to Büyükada. This choice of materials fosters harmony with the surroundings, contributing to an architectural identity for Büyükada.
