Social Gathering Space at Büyükada

Architectural Design Studio III focuses on producing a spatial experience close to the urban periphery. The students will suggest a new vision for "gathering spaces" that bring people of all backgrounds and abilities together in the urban core of Büyükada/İstanbul. “social responsibility”, “inclusive design,” and “natural building materials and techniques” will be the three pillars of the design.

The students will propose a “gathering space” by following socially responsible architecture and inclusive design principles and using natural building materials and techniques. The proposed “gathering space” should include function-specific spaces, such as working spaces, meeting spaces, multi-purpose spaces (by defining the alternative functions with usage scenarios), common production spaces, refreshment spaces, department stores, recreation spaces, entertainment spaces, accommodation units, management offices, storing spaces, stationery spaces, service spaces, etc. The design solution should also cover a supportive open-air activity with open/semi-open spaces and landscape design, mainly focusing on the existing landscape language and production

landscape.
