Melike Kılıç The Nexus

“The Nexus" emerged with the idea of being designed as a social gathering area for Büyükada/Istanbul. In the project, an inclusive architectural space was created based on social responsibility. A barrier-free area that appeals to all ages, genders and groups has been designed. The context of being a Büyükadalı resident is essential in the design, and in this context, a building proposal is developed under 3 main headings to create a common culture. culture & art, gastronomy, participatory production ateliar. The area is divided into 3 buildings and a square is created in the middle area. Various installations are integrated into the spaces and experienced in all areas.

Moreover, Natural building materials that reflect the architecture of Büyükada and are compatible with socially responsible architecture were used. A hybrid of the traditional timber frame system and stacked stone system was used, a variety of infill materials were tried, and glass brick was preferred as the infill material only in important entrance areas and also became a part of the facade.
