ECOLOGICAL GARDEN // MOUAYAD BASRAK

The design concept of an ecological garden within Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Millet Bahçesi aims to create a sustainable oasis that emphasizes biodiversity, education, and environmental stewardship. This project integrates seamlessly with the park's natural surroundings, offering visitors a space to learn about local flora and fauna while enjoying a peaceful and educational environment.

The primary objectives of this project are to promote biodiversity by showcasing native plant species, educate visitors on sustainable gardening practices, create habitats for local wildlife, and enhance the aesthetic and ecological value of the park. The garden also aims to engage the community through volunteer programs and events, fostering a sense of ownership and participation among visitors.

Central to the garden's design is a 15m long open and semi-open seating areas planted with a diverse array of wildflowers, grasses, and small shrubs to attract pollinators such as butterflies and birds. Winding pathways made of gravel guide visitors through the main entrance and to the surroundings, allowing them to experience the garden's diversity up close.

Sustainability is a key aspect of the garden, which incorporates rainwater harvesting, organic mulching, and composting to maintain soil health and reduce environmental impact. Native plantings are selected for their drought tolerance and ability to support local biodiversity. These practices ensure the garden remains vibrant and resilient, even in varying weather conditions.

The garden’s design ensures it harmonizes with the broader park aesthetic and serves functional purposes. The layout and plant selection are carefully chosen to blend with the park's existing landscape, creating a cohesive and inviting environment. seating and educational areas are designed to be accessible to all visitors. Seasonal plant selection ensures visual and ecological interest throughout the year, while interactive elements like birdhouses, insect hotels, and informational signage engage and educate visitors.

In conclusion, This detailed design concept for an ecological garden aims to create a vibrant, educational, and sustainable space within the park, fostering a deeper connection between all visitors and the natural environment. As an architecture student, this project not only contributes to my academic growth but also provides a meaningful contribution to the community.
