Woman Power/Nihat Ayan
The project was undertaken with the aim of contributing to the social, family and economic life of women and a concept was developed accordingly. It is seen that women face similar problems in many parts of the world. There are many non-governmental organizations on this subject in Kadıköy, the project area. It was observed that Kadıköy was a suitable place for this purpose and it was aimed to shape the design accordingly. The project, which is divided into 3 separate masses on the ground floor, is designed to meet public needs. As a result of the demolition of the existing building, it is aimed to create an intersection point for Başçavuş street, Yoğurtçu Şükrü street and Rıhtım Street. By supporting the formation of the passage, it is aimed to make this place a point of attraction. The balance of public and private spaces has been preserved with bridges connecting the masses at the upper elevations. Different solid and empty formations were obtained by connecting the bridges to each other in different ways at different levels. A courtyard was created with the existing building on the east side. With the back and forth movement of the masses, different terraces were created on the western facade, which is the most important façade of the building. In addition, it is aimed to create a public terrace roof on this western façade with a sea view, thanks to the open fire escape. With the use of steel carriers, cantilever projections of different sizes increased the dynamism of the mass. By designing the western façade as almost entirely glass, it was aimed to get maximum efficiency from the sea view. Aluminum sunshades, designed to suit the texture of Kadıköy, were placed in front of the glass facade according to the functions on this facade, ensuring daylight balance.
