An art center located in one of Istanbul's oldest and most admired neighborhoods, Kadikoy. It is a vibrant and culturally rich district that pulsates with energy and diversity. Street art is considered one of the most crucial elements of the Kadikoy personna. The neighborhood’s surfaces are a canvas for street artists where they like to express their thoughts and hold a mirror to the world’s events, news and issues, both the positive and negative. In order to honor this art form, conserve Kadikoy’s heritage of amazing street art pieces and discard the negative stereotypical judgements on “graffiti” art, FRESCO Art Center was designed. This is a facility where street artists come together with street art lovers to exhibit their talents and educate the public on street art. The design contains workshop spaces, art exhibitions, a governance hall, a coffeeshop, a fine dining restaurant and a private lounge area with a view on the bosphorus, these spaces are connected by an central courtyard that contains a sculptural fountain that is a brutalist cubical take on the traditional fountains of Kadikoy. The fountain offers an open, free space for gathering. Its shape is inspired by the asian vs eurpean sides of Istanbul, almost touching, but not. The water in the middle respresents the Bosphorus water running between the two sides of beautiful Istanbul.
