Textile-Based Social Innovation Hub / Mustafa Ehven
Camikebir neighborhood, which is the immediate surroundings of the project area, was the center of textile trade in the city during the Ottoman period and has hosted many textile craftsmen throughout history. Kayseri, which has become an active center in Turkey's social and economic change and development after the proclamation of the Republic, continues to be an important industrial and commercial center in the field of textiles with its significant contribution to Turkey's textile exports. On the other hand, the negative effects of the textile industry on environment continue to be an increasingly global problem. As the global demand for textiles keep growing, there is an urgent need to develop sustainable textiles.
Textile-Based Social Innovation Hub is designed to transform the current local and global challenges in the textile industry into sustainable opportunities for Turkey and Europe, starting from Kayseri. The project aims to extend the life cycle of existing textiles by raising awareness of people with trainings, workshops and exhibitions to be organized within the scope of social innovation projects that will encourage recycling and reuse. Also, another aim of the project is to present innovations in textile industry by establishing a direct connection between existing and potential customers with sustainable textile fairs.
In the architectural design concept, the spaces are designed on a gridal system, with the idea of creating a complex that centers the madrasa through passage and transition spaces by referring to the complex, passage and transition space formation existing in the vicinity. Also, it is aimed that the transition spaces, which are in visual communication with the madrasa, also have a transition function between the new texture and the old texture.
