Istanbul Gastronomy Research Center
No matter how much the world changes, no matter how advanced technology advances, eating is one of the only joys that modern times will never get away with. Gastronomy Center; It serves as a meeting point for all parties of the sector from chefs to students, from Istanbul tables to the public, from gastronomy writers to researchers.
This research center with its gastronomy context, which is a cultural and social part of Istanbul's deep-rooted history, researching old recipes that are about to disappear, finding new recipes based on Istanbul's characteristics, and a common denominator of different cultures that have been intertwined for centuries It was designed right next to Valens Aqueduct and Gazanfer Aga Madrasa.
The main plan layout was inspired by the central courtyard and surrounding chambers of the G.Medresesi, which is an education center just like a research center.
The dominant presence of the aqueduct in the area influenced the main principles of the design, and efforts were made to keep the design more passive compared to its surroundings. Sufficient space was given from both the madrasa and the aqueduct in terms of height and distance.
The fact that all four sides of the area are at different elevations determined the direction of the design. The arch-shaped openings of the aqueduct, Medrese and Mosque inspired the design. This basic shape was interpreted with different linear characters and contrasted with the slope.
In the area where the madrasa and aqueduct are very dominant; main keywords of design; It came to the fore as BALANCE, ORDER, CONTINUITY and SYMMETRY.
Openings on the Aqueduct; It was very effective in facade and exterior design in order to bring movement to the design, to eliminate stagnation and to submit to the Aqueduct architecturally.
