Eco Architecture Research Center
In the 21st century, cities has a dramatic increase on population. Increasing numbers of people who are living in the cities and lack of urbanization creates various problems on both in the urban ecology and nature. Eco-Architecture Research Center is designed to underline the ecologic problems of or caused by the built environment. There will be researches on built environment issues, possible solutions and developments.
There will be collaborations between the shareholders like researchers designers, implementers producers and citizens. The project provides a common ground for those groups with its spatial organization. There are various types of meeting areas, group work areas and auditorium for bigger events.
Two maker labs are being used for the modelling and prototyping activities. When there is a need of new form development or a trial of a new technology they can produce the first protypes in the research center and they ca work with the actual producers in the next stages.
Main working space is designed to be used as an activity based working area which means people can work where ever they want to work and they can easily choose who to work with. In this volume there are lockers for the researchers to put their stuff when they come. There is a kitchen that is always available for various activities preparing a small snack or taking some coffee. There is a silent common office that works with the activity based working area volume. It serves to the people who wants to work by themselves in a silent area. Also, there are some private offices for the experts that works on the complex regularly.
The second building is the library building which contains the auditorium, library, archive and group working areas. In the auditorium there can be events that raises awareness on the related subjects or there can be informative events to share the findings. Group working areas can be used as a workshop spaces during the events.
Group working spaces are another area to serve as a common ground for the collaborative researches. At these spaces people who are using the research center and experts from another university or institution can meet regularly to work on a research. This group working area is connected to the main research block via a bridge that provides a beautiful view of the Bozdogan Aqueduct.
There is a library that contains an archive. The library level is open for the citizens, people can work on the area as much as they can. There is a controlled entrance to the area of the books and the archive.
The courtyard is the main place that people can interact with the Research center. They can see what is going on the maker labs semiopen and open areas. They pass under the bridge they can stop to wait for their friends they can meet with each other on the stairs and so on. Also, café area is open to public. People can use that area when ever they want.
This Research Center is designed to improve the urban life by finding ecological solutions, creating a courtyard for the urban and creating a common ground for the city.
