Urban Ecology Research Center
The project land is located in the historical part of Istanbul that has cultural and historical richness in many aspects. The city of Istanbul, which has developed in the historical process, has hosted many problems. One of the most important of these problems is socio-ecological problems. This global problem deeply affects a city like Istanbul, which has a high historical background. In this direction, it is an inevitable fact to establish an urban ecological research center. It was planned to establish a research center under the heading of environmental problems, environmental components, and socio-economic components. Like user profiles, it is aimed to be an institution that will bring the young population and academicians together. Within the research programs, the necessary places for the participants to gather under the titles such as environmental protection, ecological literacy, project writing, environment, and law were designed. In addition, it is aimed to design common spaces according to the participants coming from institutions such as non-profit institutions, public institutions, and individuals who want to contribute. It is aimed to bring the users together and to create public awareness, urban development, and educational contributions among the products that are produced as a result of the necessary studies. There is a 3-meter difference between Serdap Street and Kovacılar Street. At the same time, the “Kadınlar Pazarı” on İtfaiye street forms a strong axis. Therefore, the entrance to the area is through İtfaiye street. At the same time, an entrance towards +3.00 elevation is provided with the historical aqueduct visual, passing by Gazanferağa madrasa through the Kovacılar street. The first-floor plan consists of public spaces, the second-floor plan is semi-public, and the third-floor plan consists of private spaces. WC, lobby, conference hall, and foyer are formed at the ground floor level. There is an inner garden consisting of an open area connected to the foyer. The foyer and the entrance platform are connected by stairs and elevators. The first-floor sits on the level of +7.00. It consists of the library, seminar rooms, offices, terrace, WC, and archive. Since the library research center is the area to spend the longest time, it is positioned with reference thtough the aqueduct. Accordingly, it is aimed to take referance from the aqueduct both visually and in form. In the same design decision, the seminar halls were visually connected to the Gazanferağa madrasa. Offices are located on the façade facing through the Kovacilar Street. Seminar hall and offices consist of movable walls, such flexible spaces, and multi-purpose spaces are provided. The floor sits on +11.00 level consists of the library, offices, meeting rooms, study rooms, and common study areas. Meeting rooms and study rooms are targeted as spaces that bring young researchers and academics together. The building, which is shaped according to the slope of the topography, took reference from historical buildings and its visual connection constitutes the design criteria.
