Digital Archeology Research Center

The Digital Archeology Research Center is designed to rework the important historical buildings in the historical peninsula of Istanbul, which was built next to the historical aqueduct and Gazanferağa Madrasa, which is also located in the historical peninsula in Istanbul, and to show people these historical structures in a different dimension.

While designing the research center, historical buildings and its location in a historical area were taken into consideration and tried to be shaped around this history. In the design, first of all, important circulation axes are analyzed and it is considered from where entrances to the project area and circulation will be provided. By establishing a connection with the aqueduct and the madrasa, it was aimed to draw people into the project area, namely the courtyard, by creating small squares at important intersections. The requirements of digital archeology have been tried to be met in the project area, and since the rooms with special needs under this heading do not need light, these rooms have turned into places that do not receive light. Later, the building was divided into 2 parts and these parts were considered as public and private. Spaces such as libraries, exhibition halls, and conferences that will be used more by people have been designed in the public section, and entrances have been tried to be provided from denser points in the area. In the private part, the entrance for the people who will work in this research center has been designed from a quieter point. These two buildings are connected with each other by a small bridge. The common feature of the buildings is that the different parts all look at the courtyard and make the courtyard livelier. Using technological tools such as digital photography, VR and simulation in the exhibition halls, this historical peninsula gives visitors a sense of history with a different perspective. The courtyard created in the center of the project area is intended to be used both as a passage and to serve as a distribution point for the buildings by using it as an activity area for people. It was aimed to make the courtyard visible from the terraces created on the upper floors of the buildings and to make the terraces feel like a part of the courtyard. The open area of the cafeteria in the courtyard serves as a garden in the courtyard and it is intended for people to spend time here and has been designed accordingly.
