Istanbul Modern Architecture RS
There are Valens Aqueduct, Gazanfer Ağa Madrasah and Watergate in the close vicinity of the project area, which is located in Fatih historical peninsula. In addition, the project area is located near Istanbul Manifaturacılar Çarşısı and Zeyrek Social insurance institution. These are some of Turkey's most important examples of modern architecture as current. In today's architectural world, these important works are not considered our history by some people and there is no problem in their destruction. As in the AKM building. This research center, which was created to draw attention to these important buildings, protect and document them, works with Docomomo and provides a working space for students, academics and assistants. There are also areas for public events in this area where research will be carried out for the documentation and restoration of these modern buildings. The mass was created in accordance with the floor heights of the surrounding buildings and especially with respect to the Gazanfer Ağa madrasah, and the flow was ensured by using the permeability of the aqueduct.
First, a parallel line was drawn to the aqueduct following the city continuity. This area where the courtyard is located has been turned into an activity street. Public areas were designed at +1.50 elevation and units such as the library exhibition hall where people will actively use this area were placed here. The exhibition hall, workshop area and the foyer of the conference hall can be transformed into an exhibition area or a foyer when necessary, with the help of movable walls. This activity street can be reached by a route that offers the opportunity to watch the watergate from the zeyrek neighborhood, where there will be the most intense human flow. In addition, this activity street can be reached by using the permeability of the aqueduct, and this activity street can be reached with the entrance created next to the madrasa.
The entrance at +4.50 elevation has a more specialized area. On this floor, where there are open study areas and administrative units for academicians and students, 3 masses are united in the middle through the outer corridor. It was aimed to establish a visual relationship with the courtyard in the middle and the madrasa. Visual relationship with the madrasa has been strengthened thanks to the café serving this area, open working areas and resting areas in this area. Besides watching the water level of the glass bridge on this floor, it brings the two masses together.
+7.50 elevation is a special floor reserved for researchers. With the spatial spaces created in this area, open working areas where the aqueduct can be viewed have been created.
