Children University
Zeynep Gül Sevinçer

This project offers a design that aims to raise awareness of children's social skills and communication among people in Kayseri. The education theme of this school is based on social and emotional learning. For Children's University in the Sümer neighborhood of Kayseri; the site area between Abdullah Gül University and the student village is quite suitable for the purpose of the project. Because there are collaborations with AGU students. In addition, parent-child days are organized to strengthen communication. In the environmental context, Gül Parkı is an important point to catch the attention of people in the neighborhood. An interactive media facade is placed because a facade facing this park should be attractive and visible. This is an important decision that affects the building form. The other element that determines the form is the entrance. The entrance, which is more easily accessible to AGU students and other pedestrians, is given by Erkilet Boulevard.

The other entrance is on the student village side, which is safer for vehicles. In order to create an inviting entrance, it is possible to observe the angle of the façade at the entrances. For this theme, which focuses on group work and collaborations, the building has a student capacity of 60. Spaces are designed assuming that all students do the activities together. The steel frame system is preferred due to its wide openings. In addition, circulation areas are located in large activity spaces instead of corridors that only provide circulation. Classes are more private. A reading area bordered by columns is placed in the middle of the multifunctional space formed by 5 classrooms. In this multifunctional space, a fun common presentation area is created for children with stepped platforms. The front of the inner wall of the media facade is reserved for free activities such as dancing. The craft workshop, where children can design their own performance costumes and other items, is located in the middle of the building. But there are two gates facing both this courtyard and the entrance. In front of the workshop, there is a semi-open playground where children can play outside without leaving the building. The performance hall is floating in the middle of the two circulation areas in the building. Thus, one can reach the outside through a quieter corridor without passing through the cafeteria. Administrative units and personnel units are also located on the side of this circulation area. The welcoming space, facing the doors of the performance hall and the main entrances, functions as both a foyer and an exhibition space. Outside the building, the media facade was left as a green area for the screen activities of the public, and the side was designed as an open exhibition area with trees. The side with the most trees in the site area is used as a garden. There is an outdoor playground, seating, and planting area. In addition, the storage for planting activities can be accessed from the outside. Neutral fiber cement panels on the facade are colored to create a vertical effect. In addition, colored vertical wooden shading slats are used. In summary, this project offers children a university opportunity where they have fun, learn, and socialize.
