Flexus Children's University
Jawahir Iman

Flexus children’s university comes from the combined terms of ‘flexibility and ‘sustainability. Therefore the campus is designed according to the above-mentioned terms. This is done through the provision of flexible interconnected spaces where the children can easily move around with mere obstacles. Additionally, the interior of the campus is well lit with several windows on its façade that minimizes the use of lighting services in the interior spaces, maximizing what nature can offer to the fullest thus children learn on the matters of sustainability to have an in-depth understanding of that. Besides that, the design should be easily adaptable for children who are of seven to ten years who are the central core of this design.

The campus is located in the middle surrounded on both ends by the greenery that enhances airflow and provides an outdoor space where children can easily play and enjoy playtime. Similarly, within these, green spaces are tree houses whereby children can climb and be able to have a good time or use the small book section area within there to be able to have a quiet space in nature and this is especially favorable for kids who are introverts.

Furthermore, the campus consists of two main buildings, partitioned according to acoustics and the space hierarchy of public-private spaces. They comprise a theatre building and the learning building. In the theatre building, spaces are to enhance the physical type of learning through body movements while exploring and developing the skills and talents within them. The learnings that occur in the theatre building are the acting classes of different stories that children could relate to and the dancing classes that enable them to have a rhythm and synchronized movements to enhance teamwork amongst them. The theatre has a foyer space where guests and parents of the children can purchase tickets to view the acting and choreography exhibitions of the children. This theatre makes use of the XR technology that enables the audience to experience the acting inform of sight( VR headsets), hearing, and even touch(Seat embedded sensors). This way, one feels as if they are part of the play and connect it on a deeper level.

The learning building is a more private space where kids are taught and experience their theoretical and artistic abilities. From the entrance is a reception that welcomes one to the buildings and guides one to the different spaces. It hosts the exhibition building which shows cases the different artworks of the children, and this is a flexible space, whereby the exhibition block is an interlocking block that can be exploded to exhibit and interlock it to provide more spaces within that serves as the cafeteria. Additionally, it hosts the painting studio space that has an extension to the outdoor nature and is separated from the workshop space with a fold-able door to provide flexibility and maximize space usage. The administration block is embedded within there so that there is a close follow-up of the children in those spaces.
