Cookery High School

The project area is located in Talas district of Kayseri. As Talas is close to Erciyes University, it is a region where student density is high. The feature that draws my attention the most during the regional analysis is that there are many restaurants in the region. For this reason, I wanted the project to be a school that has a restaurant and where its students can work and communicate with the public. I wanted to design an international culinary school, and students are therefore trained for five years, including the preparatory class. A school with 30 students per year and a maximum classroom capacity of 15 people. Students start taking kitchen classes, including compulsory classes, after studying English for the first year. They are not only informed about cooking in the kitchen, but also about service and business. Also, students can have experience by doing internships at the school's restaurant.

The school has a total of 6 kitchen classes, 6 normal classes and 1 workshop class. The building with the normal classes of the school and the buildings with the kitchen classes are separated from each other, and these two buildings are connected to the other floor by a bridge. The land where the school is located has a slope of 6 meters, so there are elevation differences within the school. In the transition between the two levels, there is a glass section for the students to spend time. I have created spaces for students to spend time and study in all of the gallery spaces.

The conference hall and restaurant of the school are located in the same building. The slope of the area where this building is located is very high, so there are many elevation changes in the conference hall and restaurant. Using these elevation differences, I tried to separate the restaurant and foyer from each other and to enter the restaurant and the conference hall from different levels. The restaurant kitchen serves both the restaurant and the school's dining hall. There are large areas for students and teachers to work in this kitchen. Dressing rooms and toilets in the kitchen are separated from the school. In addition, there are spaces not only for students who are trained as cooks, but also for students who have service and business internships. This kitchen was under the ground due to its location and the slope of the land. An area has been created for the kitchen to receive light. There is a ladder for students to reach the restaurant entrance.

The school is located in a very central and busy area due to its location. Although there is a restaurant for students to communicate with the public, it must be in an area where students are safe. The positioning of the school was on this basis. The school is positioned towards the street and acts as a wall, thus creating a private space between the two buildings for students.
