Space Science High School 

Space Sciences became one of the most popular disciplines globally. This discipline is always developing but the education is only given in universities. The curiosity of children about this discipline is very high and this lead me to design a space high school in Kayseri Talas. The area were the project is designed is very close to mountains like Erciyes Mountain, Ali Mountain which gives a chance to make space camps around the area. The schools main concept is to create a integration between the neighborhood which a security balance. First of all, there are two main blocks that have connection with three mesh covered bridges. The gigantic sphere planetarium is placed closer to the road to provide a direct entrance. The planetarium consist of three levels and the place under the seating’s are used as gathering space and technical unit. The public entrance is provided from the second floor which has also a study area for students. Also, the below level is designed as a workshop area with many galleries. These galleries are ornamented with space models created by students to take more attention from outside. The façade of the planetarium is a special designed mesh covering that has many gaps inside. This mesh is also used in the school part as a roof and façade covering. This mesh is used in spaces which are not classes to emphasize the differentiation between rooms. The sphere is cut by another block to represent from outside the interaction between two massive object, sphere and rectangle. This rectangle is standing outside with a cantilevered truss system. The cantilevered design is continuing also in the garden park which makes the library part more outstanding. The below part is used as cafeteria part and provides shadow.

The main entrance for the school part is generally glassed to make the interior gallery parts more visible. The classrooms have a capacity up to 35 students but for a more effective learning they are serving for 20 students. The doors of the classrooms are creating a place inside the classroom as a book shelf or sitting area. There are 13 classrooms which are placed opposed to take more day light. For the corridor the roof structure is giving a different design approach which takes more light inside because its gaps and mesh structure. Space sciences are not only about physics it is also about biology so the approach was to design an interior garden part. This garden is covered completely with our special mesh. The interior garden is only taking part in two storages and is used also as a vertical garden area. To provide one more entrance very the mesh covering is coming to the bottom there is a direct opening to the school garden. The façade design consist of element like steel, simple concrete and glass to make the mesh covering more emphasized.

The landscape design for the school is making also an interaction between human sphere and water. The big planetarium is surrounded with a water canal to create a reflection. This canal is also continuing inside the sphere. For the student part there are many banks and water places. The car park is next to the school to make it easy for teachers and workers.
