Coping with Post-Trauma:
Kocasinan Spatio-Therapy Node in Kayseri
ARCH202 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
Rüveyda Pamuk / Readaptation
This therapy center facilitates readaptation for individuals with military PTSD, helping them rediscover a sense of belonging. Addressing survivor's guilt, the design balances public and private realms, aiding the transition from isolation to community through open communal areas and secluded private spaces.
The layout integrates public usage, encouraging social interaction while respecting privacy. Communal spaces such as lounges, dining areas, and activity rooms foster supportive relationships, while private retreats offer quiet therapy rooms and meditation areas for personal reflection. The structure, with its folds and corners, mirrors this balance, creating intimate nooks amidst open spaces.
A central botanical garden draws the public into the building, providing a natural, therapeutic environment. This garden reduces stress and promotes well-being, serving as a social hub that blurs the boundaries between public and private, facilitating spontaneous interactions.
The design offers varied experiences, allowing users to choose their level of engagement. Evolving spaces reflect the changing needs of users, ensuring the center remains supportive throughout their readaptation journey. This thoughtful design nurtures a sense of belonging, demonstrating the profound impact architecture can have on healing and reintegration.
