ARCH202 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
Edanur Dişibüyük / The Big Wave Center
The "Big Wave Center" is a transformative architectural project designed to serve as a healing haven for domestic violence survivors. This four-story structure, with its lowest level partially submerged and accessible via a grand staircase, symbolizes the journey from darkness to light, embodying the essence of rebirth and recovery.
My design philosophy is anchored in the principles of renewal, growth, and inner strength and get over the big waves in life. The architectural language of the he bigh wave center speaks to the profound transformation and resurrection that survivors experience on their path to well-being. The building's fluid and flexible spaces are meticulously crafted to facilitate both communal interaction and personal introspection, fostering a holistic healing environment.
Natural light floods the interior, creating a bright and uplifting atmosphere that contrasts with the grounding, earthy materials used throughout the space. This interplay of light and materiality mirrors the process of overcoming despair and embracing a renewed sense of self. Open, airy spaces encourage movement and connection, while private, serene areas offer moments of solitude and reflection.
