Doganbey Village
A small Turkish village located in Söke district on the Aegean seaside. Once known as a Greek village namely Domatia in the 7th century B.C.A; said to harbour a natural beauty GENIOUS LOCI. It is in the outskirts of the preserved Dilek peninsula national park, the renowned port city Kusadasi, Miletos ancient Greek city, Prienne and not far from Apollon temple in Didim. It is located within the proximity of 12 ancient Ionic cities and several other ancient settlements, which renders it important to conserve and preserve.
Doganbey village is characterized by both Greek and Traditional Turkish Architecture of which could be witnessed in ruined buildings and a few still standing, the narrow cobblestone streets and breathtakingly sea views. However, it is sadly said to have been abandoned by the surge of Industrialization hence several village inhabitants migrated to urban zones.
The Visitor center
Sustainable conservation and development of The Visitor center’s spatial and functional identity, which are composed of natural and cultural heritage assets of Doganbey (Domatia) as an old Muhajir village in Western Anatolia. It consists of two storey and had harboured Functions such as school and hospital in the past. It has been restored of its spatial and functional qualities as a visitor center The visitor center’s functions of exhibiting several Flora and Fauna species that are associated with the Dilek peninsula preserved park are definetely inappropriately exhibited i.e snake species and some other animal species has been placed in small Jars, Therefore, a design strategy has been equipped and slightly improved existing functions and a few new functions introduced, such as better exhibition mediumof which Epoxy was proposed as the exhibition containment and placed adjacent to the walls without blocking windows and doors.
The Research center
In the spirit of preserving the old Doanbey, a research center project complimenting the existing Visitor center is proposed.With a total area of 800 meter square adding to the 800 meter square that the two floored existing visitor center equips.The Research center’s theme is Climate Change and is composed of two levels -2.5m level and -5.5m level. A blend of stairs and ramps is mainly used for circulation between levels and leads down the open public terrace with walkable photovoltaic flooring.
The following private functions: Research lab for 4 researchers and a team manager, Accommodation units for 4 Researchers and a semi-open lounge terrace with the Aegean sea views. The following public and semi-public functions are also offered in the research facility: A library with two four seaters tables and 3 book racks then attached to it on the Pedastrian bridge axis and the east of the courtyard is the Admnistration office with a secretary desk lobby; have been provided on the -2.5 level
On the way down the left side of the stair ramp is the observation room for the Cultural heritage museum which was accommodated in the ruin that already resides on the site and would be renovated and re-used to exhibit vernacular spatial features of the old doganbey.
As for landscape Rain gardens are proposed on the shores of sharlak river in order to prevent soil erosion, olive trees as a traditional plant would be planted in those rain gardens.
