FLO-Na/Hamza Haidam

The town of Doanbey is set on a hill on the peninsula's southern edge, within the boundaries of the Dilek Peninsula-Büyük Menderes Delta National Park. Before the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1924, this old village was called Domatia and was inhabited by the Greek people. The Turks entered Doanbey after 1924, but in the 1980s of the 20th century, they abandoned the village in quest of more advanced living arrangements. The village has not had any new residents since that time. As a result, it was able to keep its historic architecture and unique character from almost a century ago. Many of the historic residences are still in need of repair, although some of the structures have been restored and marketed as vacation homes.

The village is very rich of fauna and flora, with its walking trails, diverse bird population, sophisticated flora, and indigenous plant species in the hamlet, it has evolved into a location where ecotourism keeps growing. Visitors can learn more about the village and the national park at the visitor center in the community.

The site of the Project is located next to the visitor center. There are two roads to access the site, one of them pass by the river since there is no water in it for now and that can be risky in the future, the other road is located on the other side of the river. As a decision of transportation analysis, I decided to add a new Access that leads the visitors to the site directly. The new access will be a bridge connecting both sides of the village and providing an easy entrance to the site. The bridge will not be only used for crossing from side to side but also to enjoy the view and relaxing. The railing transforms into a bench for the visitors because the new bridge has carpentry work on the sides. The bridge gives the walkers the chance to pause, take a seat, and savor the scenery before continuing on their journey.

The project focus on fauna and flaura of doagnbey village. The main aims of this project are three. The first one is introducing the village and its richness to the visitors. The second aim is conducting research about the area and examine the nature (fauna, flaura), protecting the endagerous species and learn more about the extinct species (animals, plants). The third purpose focuses more on raising kid’s awareness of the important of the nature. The existing visitor center will still keep its function with some modifications. The first floor of the visitor center will provide the visitors a general idea of the village. The second floor consists of fauna, flora and marine exhibition, which will provide more informations to the visitors. Also, there is an office that can arrange some activities for the visitors for example hiking or providing some tours in the village and during the tour, people may get to know the plants and enjoy the breathtaking views. The research center is a private area which is connected to the accommodation area by a co-working space. The accommodation area has four rooms with a kitchen and a dining area. Lastly, the kid’s area, which will be used to raise kids awareness about the importance of nature. It consists of a multifunctional room and a conference. The conference can be used by the kids as a lecture room and it can be used also by the researchers from time to time. For the open space, it is located on the area that has a better view potential so that people can enjoy every scenery of the village. The open space has a plant propagation area, an open space exhibition and an area for watching the view and can be also used for lecture.

For the structure system, I used reinforced concrete system with raft foundation except for the research lab and the conference room because they are suspended structures and they are supported by truss system. The weather in doganbey village is really harsh it becomes super-hot in summer and really cold in winter so I used a ventilated facade system in order to protect the interior enclosure against any inclement weather. A ventilated facade is a type of facade that has an air gap between the insulation and the cladding. The top and bottom of this gap are open, and the cladding has minor exposed joints. This allows the facade to breathe naturally. While deciding the cladding material that will be used, I considered the weather of doagnbey village, the project concept and the materials in the site. All of these important points lead me to pick Mitrex solar panels. These solar panels can have a stone texture that can fit with the building of the village and also it will provide us with enough energy since it gets sunny in that area and we can benefit from that. The solar panels will only use on the south direction, for other façade side a porcelain stoneware will replace the solar panels and both of them will have the same stone texture and color. For the roof system, I’m using a reflective roof, which is designed to reflect more sunlight than a traditional roof, allowing it to absorb less solar energy. This decreases the building's temperature and keeps it cool on a hot day. In addition to this reflective roof. In addition to this roof system, I added flexible solar panels on top of the roof which can be described also as peel and stick solar panels, they can be installed directly on a roof surface without racking, anchors, or ballast. Although, this type of solar panels aren’t not as beneficial as the tilted solar panels but they would be hidden in the roof and won’t be visible to the passerby.
