Design approach of studio
Design Topic of “Inter+Hub” aims to propose a design solution in Mersin’s city center, to increase the interaction between built environment, socio-cultural spaces, city halls, historical places, etc., with society. To develop a design solution for a main urban hub for Mersin as a connection, reflection, and interaction space, students are expected to develop a design solution to
transform Mersin’s old center into a main interaction hub of the city. Design aims are re-defining the site as an urban hub, transforming the milieu to an interactive social meeting point, re-creating an alternative interface of the city to link the citizens and visitors, highlighting the urban memory and social identity of Mersin with different future visions, re-discovering the potentialities of the milieu as a “place”, creating social and spatial connections between all spaces around (includes open and semi-open spaces too), re-thinking on the hub, and develop new alternatives in a contemporary context, re-thinking the transformation of the lost (abandoned) landscape and current landscape of the milieu into integrated green sustainable space, designing environment- friendly artifacts.
